This is a very serious issue and i think that it needs to be discussed do you guys think that developers are really using the full ability of the UMD disk, well i dont check this out the UMD disk can store up to 1.8 GIGA bites of data and developers do not use the disks full potential e.g Wipeout Pure (one of the launch titles) is 200mb can you believe that do you know how much data was wasted there and seeing as there are no UMD disk re writers out there is no changing that. that is a waste of 1.6 gb of space devlopers need to put more into their games and stop making baby games like locoroco WTF why bother the game is alright but please why waste precious UMD space

most of the newer games are using up to 1.7 gb but you have to remember that if it was cheaper to make a smaller disk to save more space they would. most of the pst2 games were between 1-2 gb wasting about 2-3gb. They make the game and thats it, they have 1 type of disk they can put it on.

that's true but if they could capatalize on the disk size then maybe they could produce some really beautiful games

They are still managing to make some really beautiful games, and there's nothing wrong with titles like Loco Roco. Titles like Loco Roco introduce some true gameplay innovation to an industry that's too scared to take risks. It doesn't matter how much space on the disc these games take up, what matters is the content. Is the game fun to play? Wipeout Pure was both beautiful and arguably the best game in the series. So what if it only takes up 200mb? It's a great title and that is the only thing that matters.

yeah the content is the most important thing when making games but if they used more space the games could be much better and i did not say anything was wrong with Loco Roco but it was a waste of space yes it is a great game no doubt about it but at least they could better

If you've made a great game and it only happens to take up 200mb on a 1.8gb disc, I don't see that as wasted space. When you start trying to force developers to fill a FILE SIZE when texture resolutions don't have to be HD quality on such a small screen, you end up with developers maybe making a wonderful title. A legendary title even, but it doesn't fill the disc. Oh no. Now they focus on giving it more content and more content. Thus overloading an already perfect game, making it bulky and overdone.

Think about it this way. Programmers used to get paid based on the amount of lines of code they wrote in a program. Early programs were judged in value by the amount of code that makes the program. We now know, that if you can do it in three lines of code, don't try to get 100 lines of code to do the same thing. Efficiency is more important. Quality over quantity. Just because the media CAN hold more, doesn't mean every game needs to fill the disc.
